Is it not possible to deploy code if I am using private Gitea repos?

No, at the moment only Github and GitLab are supported for deploying from. There is an existing feature request for deploying without these at https://render.canny.io/admin/feedback/features/p/deploy-without-githubgitlab?boards=features which i’d encourage you to vote and follow for updates,

That’s a shame… Render seemed like a good Heroku alternative, but unfortunately that’s a deal breaker since I need to deploy present day (and that feature request is coming up on 2 years old).
the ability to pull from private container registers and repositories like Gitea is still very necessary
