Web Service metrics when scaled

When looking at the metrics for a web service, how are are the memory, and cpu values calculated when there is more than one instance running? I have discovered you can see the 24 hour averages across the instances under the scaling tab, but not sure how that rolls up under the metrics tab for longer term evaluation.

The Scaling tab will show you the sum of all instances running.
