I am constantly getting the same message while trying to deploy a web service about there being an error somewhere, meanwhile nothing lights up red and I don’t see anything that could be wrong.

That’ll be the leading / on the Root Directory, we have an internal ticket to fix the error message on that. Remove that and it should submit correctly.
