I have had this site running on render for over the year without issues.

The latest deploy was on July 9th.
About three hours ago, it started returning a 502 bad getway/host error.
What could be the issue?

Looks like your domain is using Cloudflare, this error could be occurring due to the settings in your Cloudflare account. Can you please make sure you have configured Cloudflare as per our guide here: https://docs.render.com/configure-cloudflare-dns
